2020: The Year of Resilience; 2021: The Year of Growth

What does it mean to be resilient?

According to the American Psychological Association, “Psychologists define resilience as the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats, or significant sources of stress—such as family and relationship problems, serious health problems, or workplace and financial stressors. As much as resilience involves “bouncing back” from these difficult experiences, it can also involve profound personal growth.

I would have to say that 2020 involved every single one of those aspects, to some extent, for each and every one of us. It had our back’s against a wall, feeling the pressure of the COVID-19 restrictions, limiting the way we have also known how to enjoy life.

However, if you're reading this today, then go ahead and breathe a sigh of relief, you’ve not only physically survived, but mentally, as well!

Now it’s time for that personal growth part…

With all that we have endured, it’s time to put that resilience into application.

Outside of 2020, when was a time you went through a life challenge? What did that look like? How did you navigate through that? What did you learn from it? Now here is the gem, if that challenge were to present itself again, what would you do differently?

I don’t believe that 2021 is going to look all that different than 2020 in terms of the global pandemic, however, having gone through it, it can now feel different.

Having gone through such adversity, we now have the upper hand in what we need in order to get to thriving this year.

If you’re still working from home, take the time out to really cozy up your home office. Are kids still attending school via e-learning? Ask them what will make the experience more enjoyable moving forward.

We’ve worked so hard to get through 2020, let’s now work smarter to enjoy 2021 to the best of our abilities.

Be kind to the mind,

Dr. Claudia
